Right, or a mechanic ordered parts for a Pontiac, only to find out it was a
Chevy engine!
Then the "wheels fell off" and GM got caught with their pants on fire!
BTW, this whole thread started because the 1968-1969 Corvair engines
abbreviated the VIN as "1....8W101706" which made me ask what the "1" was?

It was an informative thread though, as I always wondered what that "1" was
doing, preceding the "year" code?
