So, this is how owners of Pontiacs, Olds and Buicks found out they had Chevy
engines back when GM started to "share" without telling anyone ?

Not entirely correct.
1 = car line (Chevrolet)
05 = model series
67= model style (convertible)
8= model year
W= final assembly plant (Willow Run)
101706= serial number
I don't remember the other numbers for the different car lines but I
think
that 4 was for Buick, 2 was for Pontiac, and 3 was for Oldsmobile. I
might
have these mixed up.
