Slightly related, what does the E added to AC Delco filters mean?

i.e. this Fram PH 3387 crosses to a PF47 and PF47E

Several filters I use have now gone to E suffixes at local parts stoes,
while online I can still buy the non E suffix parts.  The non E suffises
are more expensive from the same vendor as the E suffixes.
