Frank, you think NJ is bad?  How about NYC?  In Brooklyn, a dump in a crummy rundown neighborhood can cost you around $600K and for that, the house is likely to be attached and have NO land around it.  If you're lucky, you get a shared driveway with your neighbor and maybe a one car garage.
