Either that or a failed ignition switch or a bad battery terminal
connection. Wow - three years out of a battery? That's not bad going. I
have had a whole string of them fail just after the 1 year guarantee had
expired. In some cases they replaced them anyway. But now I've decided to
change brands.

Check the connections at the starter end and/or possibly for a deceased
solenoid. Might be able to resurrect the solenoid by flipping the copper
disk inside to the (hopefully) previously unused opposite side.
