To me, his almost sounds like a wheel bearing in the final stages of failure.  If some of the rollers have disintegrated there would be enough play to make a camber change and perhaps some extra toe.  This would certainly make steering more difficult.

If at all possible I would red tag the car until this issue could be checked out further.  If it is a bearing, it is interesting that no one mentioned rubbing, scraping or squealing noises.
