Hmmm, very interesting info. I hope the original poster sees your reply.
On the other hand, backward-flow cooling might require a cooling-off 
period before changing plugs, but it would help keep the pushrods a lot cooler. 
Imagine a blast of hot air coming OUT of that large fan housing, instead! 
A racing application might even resemble the Chapparal 2J sucker-car!

  I did mention (several times) that a serpentine belt, where the fan is driven 
from the back side of the belt, and a couple of idlers, would allow one to use a 
stock Porsche fan on a stock engine.
  Now, for a reverse rotation Corvair engine, the Porsche fan spins the same 
direction as the crankshaft, so, that makes it even easier.
