I've got to second Lon on this. I've never had one overheat with the
stock system of shrouding, belts and fans. And I do drive mine quickly when I
drive them (none are respectable looking unfortunately, but I'm still
paying off the kids' student loans) I have seen lots of Corvairs being driven
with missing pieces of shrouding and missing spark plug boots and being
maligned because the car was at fault and not the owner. And it is usually new
owners with no experience with air cooled engines. I saw the same thing in
the Army in the '60s when "mechanics" would ruin Onan air cooled engines
that powered our generators because they would run them without their
shrouding.

Mark - of course I understand what you're saying. I've dealt with
performance people for most of my 38 years in business. That's not the
issue here. The implication (and fastvairs) was made on Virtual Vairs
that the stock Corvair cooling fan was insufficient at keeping a Corvair
cool.
Now we come to the point where we apparently have to worry about the
cooling fan.
