It's the inertia. And high HP engines change speed a lot faster, especially the stick shift version. The other version is a schtick shift... <G>

Not sure about horsepower, but it is another thing you have to accelerate
slowing down acceleration.

It's pretty hard to find any correllation between fan weight and horsepower
consumed.
