<VV> Lifespan of standard ignition points

Seems to me that in the old days, points, plugs and condensor had to be replaced at 10,000 miles. A good electronic ignition eliminates the points and condensor (right?) and greatly extends plug life. Except for old times' sake, why bother with the old stuff?

Somewhat of a guess since I've not been keeping track. On GM or ACDelco
ones - probably 20,000 or better. Anything else is pretty much of a
crapshoot.
I do recall one instance where I changed out the points on the Rampside and
within a week it was running VERY poorly to the point where (after a couple
of more days) it refused to start. Removed the China made points for Delco
ones. That was about a year ago (probably 3,500 - 5,000 miles) and all is
still good in that department.
Later, JR
