Well, the LSx is still in production, into its 16th model year, so....
Flatties are still around due to nostalgia. OHV is better in every way. One reason the old SBC stuck around for so long!
As far as inline engines go, we have a 320 CID Hercules JXD in our searchlight, and that engine was in production for a LOOONG time. Doesn't make it better, it was chosen because it was quiet and relatively bulletproof. But it is HEAVY, uses a lot of fuel, etc.

1932-1952 or so is about 20 years, and that is just in Ford V-8's -- I'd
have to look up the last inline flathead produced, but probably sometime
into the sixties -- the only other thing that comes close (exceeds it)
is the SBC. Is your LSx one of those? And maybe the inline Chevy 6.
How long is / was the run of the Ford 300 6? In some circles, the
Flatie is still in favor, and highly so.
Now all you guys with great memories will have something to correct, or
look up -- aircraft not included.
