Why would you think I wouldn't take your "good advice?" Have I said things here that suggest I'm unwilling to listen & learn? I listened to "good advice" from the pres. of a local club in FL, and got hooked up with a jerk. I paid him good money, not to rebuild the engine, but to check it out and tell me if it needed rebuilding. He said, "NO, just a few external things and I can fix them." But it still cost me between $3,000 and $4,000 in parts and labor. I supplied NEW parts from Clark's for everything he said was needed. The fact that when it didn't make more than 200 miles, he said, "Oh, I mis-judged the crank and cam shafts. They're both bad and need to be replaced.", wasn't because I wasn't listening!
 
Now then, do you have contact info for John Sweet? Jeff is 2 hrs. away from me, and right now I have no way of getting the car to him. Where is the nearest local club to Central PA?
 
Thanks to all for suggestions. What I see so far shows no broken/bare wires, the starter is bolted on tight; all "looks" good there. It still appears to me that the melted wire and the starter problem are unrelated.
 
Tell me again how to buy Bob Helt's book. Looks more and more like I'm gonna need it!
