Guys, this is a "theoretical question," I'm just curious...

I know that different steering columns on Late models cannot be interchanged.  However, what if you wanted to upgrade a 65 or 66 column to the later "safety" 67-69 unit that is fully energy-absorbing?  Would it be possible to take an entire steering assembly, including the steering box, from a '67-69 car, and mount it onto the '65-66 body?
