That's a very good question. PGs lower the threshold of thrashability by a lot. You certainly have to keep it wide open unless you are on the brakes and you don't end up competing with very many people but you can make some pretty entertaining passes when you don't slow down for corners, rough pavement, ditches etc.
The PG didn't last long before the mounts were torn off and it got a 4-speed when that happened.
