If one were to do this (not a bad idea!) the correct way for a 140 would be to block off the secondary port, weld on an aluminum mounting flange in place of the primary port, and hog the whole thing out for the 32/36. This way, things are nice and short, and distribution of fuel won't suffer, as per the GM paper as to why the Corvair intake is designed as it is.
Another idea would be to mount two 1-1/2" SUs, also as close to the primary port as possible. The variable venturi should make lots of power and good driveability.

Joe White asked about a progressive 2-bbl carb being used in a Corvair. I
have wondered about this as well and communicated this with Tom K at
American Flat 6. He is currently building manifold adapters for the 140 HP
engine that use the 40 IDF Weber carburetors. I asked about modifying them
to use the 32/36 progressive Weber 2 bbl. It would be an interesting
experiment to say the least. He said might play around with it. He will be
at the Performance workshop in INDY in March.
Surely someone has experimented with such a setup. I have a spare 140
downstairs, but not the ability to machine such an adapter or else I might
give it a go.
