You just squeeze the clip tightly and place it on the door so that the holes 
line up, insert the swivel end (by feel and after having previously adjusted 
for length), push other (long) end of the clip over the rod and  you are 
done.  With a little practice - a 20 second operation.  Infrequently done - 
might take a minute or two to get the right "feel" for it.
