John, using that same logic, we can blame Obama for the disasterous
devastation inflicted by Sandy, the worst storm of the century, since it happened
under HIS administration!

So, to sum up, under Obama, oil and gas production are up, domestically,
but not under the oil man Dubya.

Thanks for clarifying the obvious.

John,
While fracking WAS intended to get more natural gas it has also
increased our production of petroleum. That's what's helping to reduce our
import of oil. But the big increase in natural gas has so dropped the price
(compared to coal and oil) that some municipalities (such as Indianapolis) are
beginning to convert their vehicles to run on that fuel instead of oil or
gasoline. Only a few years ago plans were made to construct liquified
natural gas terminals so we could IMPORT natural gas to feed our growing need.
NOW, however, these plans are being changed to make EXPORT terminals to
ship out natural gas to areas like the Far East where its price is now THREE
times what it is in the USA. No thanks to the 35 year-old Energy Dept.
for these improvements, but I'm sure the government will take credit for them.
"Oy gevalt"? And a Happy Chanukah to you, John!!!

So, it's private? Big deal. And fracking is primarily to augment natural

While domestic oil production HAS increased it's all due to PRIVATE
efforts and not the Dept. of Energy. It's called hydraulic fracturing
("fracking") invented by PRIVATE individuals and done on PRIVATE instead of
government owned land.
I didn't realize that Maine (ME) had a significant oil production. Thanks
for sharing that with us.

In all fairness, domestic oil production is up by ~30% as compared to this
time last year.

And the marketplace is what drove imported oil. ME oil is cheaper to
recover and cheaper to refine. So...
