While domestic oil production HAS increased it's all due to PRIVATE efforts
and not the Dept. of Energy. It's called hydraulic fracturing
("fracking") invented by PRIVATE individuals and done on PRIVATE instead of government
owned land.
I didn't realize that Maine (ME) had a significant oil production. Thanks
for sharing that with us.

In all fairness, domestic oil production is up by ~30% as compared to this
time last year.
And the marketplace is what drove imported oil. ME oil is cheaper to
recover and cheaper to refine. So...

Timothy, Don't worry! Our supremely wise and loving government set up
the
Dept. of Energy a few years ago (35 to be exact) to reduce our dependency
on
imported petroleum. With lots of hard work and effort they have managed
to
reduce it from 30% of all the oil we use down to 50%.
