When my wife and I went to the "Detroit" Convention we stayed in Sterling
Heights at a hotel near that years host hotel. It is called "Extended Stay
America" and was very affordable and had plenty of room amenities including
a stove and refrigerator. No Pool or amenities of that nature.
But it was centrally located as on our own we went to the Chrysler heritage,
The Henry Ford, The Automotive Hall of Fame, and the Ypsilanti Heritage as
well as the Fireman's Museum in Ypsilanti.
There are plenty of great non-chain choices for restaurants close to the
hotel. A GPS can get you anywhere around there, though at the time I used
maps I had "googled".
We liked the hotel so much we went back again in 2009 and stayed there with
friends and again went to the Henry Ford, they to the Chrysler Heritage, and
even up to Frankenmuth on the way home, though it was not on the way home
exactly.
Have fun, the Walter P. Chrysler Museum is a worthy trip.

Hi everyone.
I'm going to take Clark's advice and go visit the Chrysler Museum. I'm
flying into Detroit and while I'm there I'll make a big loop and visit the
Ypsilanti/Corvair museum and also the Yankee Air Museum.
Can anyone give me some ideas for a good place to stay. Having never been
to that part of Michigan I'm clueless, except I'm pretty sure I don't want
to stay around Detroit.
Thanks much.
