<VV> Paint Removal on Magnesium Fan

My top blower fan has paint that is badly peeling and I would like to clean it up. Is it safe to use paint remover on the magnesium fan without harming the metal? What about sand blasting? Were fans unpainted from the factory? Anyone have a suggested paint they are happy with? Sometime back someone was selling powder coated fans and I would like to know if he still has them for a 1964 engine.
