I'll weigh in on this one. As far as I'm concerned the legality of doing
this is irrelevant. I have no problem with doing this as long as you don't
try to represent it as correct mileage.
Now, given that a Corvair with 101,000 miles, or 201,000 miles could be
misrepresented the same way so what difference does it make.
Also as far as I'm concerned "original low mileage" Corvairs based on the
odometer reading are a joke. I can actually disconnect the speedo cable in
a late model Corvair while driving without taking my eyes off the road.
Don't want to rack up the miles? Reach down and yank the cable...
totally immoral but easy to do. The only down side for the driver is no
speedometer, but if you are using a GPS even that isn't a problem (not to
mention most experienced drivers don't really need a speedo in a car they
are familiar with anyway).
I'd like to zero the odometer when I do a full restoration, makes it more
fun and easier to keep track of the miles you've put on it since.
