<VV> strage thing with my 66 Corsa

If it died suddenly (as if someone turned-off the key) when you hit second,
it's probably not fuel. How did it die?  Stumble and miss or just cut-off?
I would suspect something electrical - loose wire or short to the
distributer most likely, or some other short related to the engine moving a
bit around when you shift.
