<VV> OIL FILTER PUFFING

Last time i saw this was on a newly rebuilt motor that had a sticky   oil 
pressure regulator .
I would definitely pull it out and check it for free movement.If you look  
closely at the plunger , you can usually  see odd wear patterns on problem  
parts.
 I use a "test gauge" on a Clark's adapta bolt for monitoring oil  pressure 
. I do not suggest leaving it there for long periods of time.
