Please correct me if I am wrong, but as I understand it, all GM wheels of
that era where painted at the manufacturing plant with a baked-on dipping
type black lacquer, similar to the Corvair engine shrouds. Once supplied
to the assembly plant, the only wheels that were actually painted where
those done to match a particular vehicle body and that paint was only
applied to the exterior side of the wheel.
Somewhere I also recall that Ermine White and Cameo White two-tone FC's
(with a red painted stripe) also had red painted wheels.
