<VV> engine bay color

I have two 62 corvairs and both engine bays are body color.  Correct me if I am wrong,  engine bays were normally pained body color from 1960 to 1963. Early production of 1963 had the engine bays painted body color .   In November of 1963 I bought a new 4 door Corvair and the engine bay was painted black. I still have the registration slip of that Corvair for 1964.  Vin # of that Corvair was 30769W298343.  I was in SC at the time and the cost of renewal was $3.00.  That Car now would cost about $75.00.
