<VV> Heated windshields

I can think of one reason straight off the bat! Radar detectors don't work through these! The Ford Instaclear windshield had a thin transparent conductive layer on the inside surface of one pane next to the PVB layer in the center. They shot 90 volts through it, and voila! Clear windshield in under a minute.
However, there's an amusing story...
Michigan, a very long time ago, ordered a bunch of Crown Vics with this option for their police cruisers. Neat idea, but rendered their radar units inoperable, as they couldn't shoot through the windshield! Next thing you know, about 100 cars are getting new windshields...

I have often wondered why they (such windshields) aren't an option.. Makes a
whole lot of sense to me...esp wrt windshield wipers & defrost for
air-cooled...
Sure would be a good option for Corvairs.

replaced in the 911 and the Porsche factory recommended that if we were
going to drive it the winter (they implied you shouldn't) we should have
them install the windshield with heater elements in the lower third, we did
and it worked like a charm. The elements were low enough that you didn't see
them while driving. Expensive way to defrost.
