Thank you Seth. 

That explains why the front brakes of the Chevelle are #241 and the rear of
the Corvair are #246, while the rear of the Chevelle and the front of the
Corvair share the same #242 (Raybestos) or #245 (Bendix).

You would think at some point the shoe people would have dropped the
non-emergency brake model and just made the one style. After all, the extra
holes don't matter to the Chevelle rears used on the Corvair front.

John - The drum braked Camaro of 1967-69 and the Chevelle 1964-72 used very 
 similar linings to the Corvair. Since the Corvair had most of the weight 
on the  rear wheels, unlike the "Camarovelles", which had the weight on the 
front  wheels, Chevy cleverly swapped the wider (2.5") front linings on the

Chevelle to the rear of the Corvair, and moved the 2" wide ones to the 
front.  What makes the linings unique for the rear of the Corvair are the
special 
holes  added in the metal parts of the shoes to allow the emergency brake 
actuating  mechanism to mount in place. Otherwise, the "Camarovelle" shoes 
will fit  - when swapped front to rear. The pre-disk brake Chevelles
1964-66, 
offered  a metallic lining option, and we used these shoes on the race cars 
when they  wouldn't allow us to update to discs. Some still use them, or 
aftermarket  replacement metallics, for Vintage racing.
