Yes, a big space.
I had a wood shelf in my 64Monza sedan for years with a pair of 6x9
triple cone whatever speakers. It was great! The best part was I covered
the whole shelf with some speaker type foam so the speakers were not
visible, just looked like a black shelf behind the rear seat. Almost
never locked the car... even when parked near the shop, read
"questionable area". For a radio I just used one of those digital GM
models from the 80s and cut the chassis so the knobs were correct
spacing for the early model pod/trim. Even used the stock 64 knobs.
Looked "factory" to the unknowing, i.e. no Corvair owner would think the
digital stereo was stock!
