Ayep!! Somehow, going from 80 to 180 HP and expecting the cooling to be 'adequate' seems ludicrous.

Hi folks,
Just thought I would throw out a couple facts from GM:
- The turbo engine was known to not be able to cool at WOT for extended periods.
The engineers decided, however, that the driver would run out of courage prior
to the engine destroying itself.
- Chevy documented reduction of head temps with the lower shrouds removed. See
the GM test data reprints available from Clark's for the exact numbers.
An 80 HP engine will not overheat with all the cooling tin in place, that's what
the system was designed for. All the higher HP engines push the margin of
safety built in to those original engines, sometimes beyond capacity. OTOH, if
you are driving your Corvair at say, 70 MPH, it doesn't much matter which engine
it has, the HP requirement is the same.
