JR, is right, there are bearings at each end, the back end you can lube
if you take it apart. If the sound is more of a squeal I have seen
alternators do that when there are diode issues.
The bearings are cheap and are easy to replace.

Try turning the fan, the alternator, and the idler pulley by hand with the
belt removed. Most likely, this will isolate the problem for you. There
are bearings in each item and one or more may be at or near the failure
point.
