I asked the same question earlier this year, I got a really good answer below from Dick Moon. I ended up adjusting it based on what I could see, however, the factory location was a little low for me. However, installing the mounting brackets with nuts and bolts was tricky with the higher location, there isn't much room at the top of the door.
