<VV> Electric Vehicles (little Corvair)

A friend of mine has a proud, 4 years old, and says the battery
performance is the same as when new. I routinely drive a Ford Escape
hybrid (33 to 34 mpg) and Ford Fusion (32-34 mpg) in our office fleet
and both continue to perform well. Mark Durham

 1. They've moved on from NiHM batteries to Li-ion.
2. Your experience with failed batteries is unusual. I know of someone
with a 2000 Insight with 500,000 miles on it now with the original
battery, and the dealer says they've only had to replace one battery
on all the hybrid Hondas they've sold.
3. My best guess is when these get old, there'll be plenty of used
batteries available, since by and large, they'll outlast the cars.

On the Elect. vehicle talks. They appear to be a good thing in their
early years
while under warranty but......out of warranty the cost of replacing the
batteries is very very high. This would offset the gas savings in the long run
if you incurred this expense. I know the batteries are suppose to last many
years, but we still like driving our Corvairs don't we! . All of this
being said
I have a 10 inch DC motor and controller stashed away to convert a Corvair if I
have to.
P.S. Our school had a 2000 Honda insight, we had the battery pack replaced
twice under warranty and at the 10 year point the pack was bad
again.....part of
the problem was the car didn't get driven enough, sounds like my Corvairs.
