Tim and all, I am not 100% sure of the accuracy, but let me explain where my information came from and you can make up your own mind.
It all started when I pulled the engine from my 27,000 mile 1961 Greenbrier to replace the bad flywheel and clean things up a bit. First thing I noticed was the 1960 style exhaust manifolds, then when I removed the lower shrouds the full finned cylinders became visible. When I went out to the shop to gather some numbers I did discover that I was wrong about the balance tube, it is the small size not the large. Engine number is T1126V, Axle BL 11 18, the number on the FC style generator 1102227 0J14, The serial number of the Greenbrier is in the 8,000's. It has the FC SW dipstick oil fill. I am pretty sure it is an untouched original engine. I was skeptical also, and talked to Mike Dawson and he said that many of the '61 FCs he had worked on had the '60 parts. What is the experience of other low millage original '61 FC owners?
Inquiring minds . . .

Isn't the bore size different from '60 to '61 henceforth the larger displacement engine (140 inch vs. 145 inch)? And I am sure only the '60 had the large balance tube. And would this also apply to the Corvair Lakewood in '61? I am still learning.
