 Yep. The ring and pinions really need to be kept together, as they are made as a matched set. Even for modern cars!

I reread my reply and determined I stated it correctly. The only thing I should have added is "the ring and pinion gears are to be used as a MATCHED set". The pinion shafts are different from PG to manual trans. The same applies to late diffs. Ray, you are a hard working young man taking on these tasks. I don't have as much energy as I used to have in my 20s and 30s.

Tim,
Pinions are the same for both manuals and PGs so, if having a good hydraulic press, changing (pinion) shafts is an easy task. Have made it several times, successfully .
