It is possible to put the 6 bolt gear set into the late diff without 
drilling. You need to put the nuts from the late carrier into the early carrier. 
Use the late u-joint bolts and yokes. The late carrier does support the axle 
yoke more that the early carrier. The late carrier is longer in that area. I 
ran this combination in a street & auto-x car for a couple of years with no 
problems.
