True, and I do have one.  It solved the problem of flooding while idling.  If the carb is leaking AFTER you shut off the ignition, it could very well be an issue.  I don't know if early turbos have them, but if so equipped, make sure the return line is working.  Still, stalling when punching the throttle is usually fuel starvation or ignition related.

I don't know the answer to the question, but I'm pretty sure I've read about turbo owners using a fuel pressure regulator.  I have some notes on adding a vent to the Carter on my turbo page, it may help:
