<VV> Power glide flex plates

Has anyone usded a early flex plate in place of a late on a late engine and had any problems?  I have a friend that did so and had a rattling noise when put into gear, or when the engine warmed up to operating temp. We have the engine removed, a 140, and I don't want to go into the engine at this time til I find out something about flex plates.  Some say no problem.
