In case anybody remembers, not all Corvairs came equipped with
alternators, and perhaps, depending on your specific driving situation,
a generator is not a bad choice. The ones I have work fine for me --
wish I could say the same for regulators.
Anyway, Back When, it was not totally uncommon to drive a generator
powered car without even having a battery (batteries were expensive, and
highly unreliable) -- one just had to be able to start it (what the
crank was for). It did not take much imagination to jump to the
'removing battery cable to test generator' mode in an era when a VOM was
something in the radio shop and not in the garage.
Seems some people are unable to move on, even though HF has a little $3
digital multimeter in their flyers (the ones with the yellow button
seems more reliable -- yes, I have throw away tools to augment the real
ones -- great for the trunk tool set).
