Hi Jim,
Thanks for the suggestions. We thought of the extra oil pressure, but that
was checked and if crank case pressure was a issue I would think we would
see oil come up the dipstick. That is not the case. We are still running the
10w-30 run in oil as the engine only has 700 miles on it right now. I will
be switching to 10w-40 Amsoil as I had always used that oil in the past with
good results and then there is the plus thing about no coking for the turbo.
My engine was rebuilt by a very experienced professional Corvair mechanic.
He did tell me this is the first engine he had used Viton seals on the crank
and the only ne he has ever had this problem with. Other than this leak
problem my engine runs GREAT!
Thanks!
Carlton Smith

Hi Carlton.
I am going on three years and 15,000 miles and my rear er, ah, viton
bellhousing main seal is still taking care of a problem I had. I had a drip
that drove me nuts. I use 10W 30 Mobil synthetic. Maybe it is an
undersized crank seal area or some extra oil pressure?

Yes, on my '62 Monza Wagon with 4 speed. After driving it leaks out the size
of a baseball from the bell housing. I am getting ready to "redo" the job.
What are you calling the main seals (bell housing, at the crankshaft pulley,
or?)?. I'll post my findings and hopefully positive results soon.
