Now:
I'm not an authority on marketing services or the like... BUT.
200 bucks to repair a factory Corvair tach is kinda steep. I've
fixed a number of them and not a one ever cost more than about 12
bucks in parts (unless it was a rusted stuck/seized mess) and the
actual labor was less than about 2.5 hours. Been a while since I
did one though.
Maybe those labor rates have kinda gone up? ;)

There's a tach schematic online as well... think I had a hand in
that IIRC... also been a while.
Ladies and gentlemen: These tachs are NOT that complicated and
usually the only thing to fail is the capacitors on the board which
dry out, lose value and the tach reads way low. Electronically they
are not complex at all, fewer than about a dozen components on the
board. Calibrating them is also not difficult if you have a
standard (freq. counter) and a correct signal source (a bell
transformer will NOT work correctly).
And you should be able to get one fixed for less than 200
bucks. About the only thing that's not really repairable is the
meter movement itself so if THAT is defective, shop around for
another tach. Otherwise, shouldn't be a huge issue to repair it.
