Smitty Says;  The simplist and maybe the most effective anti theft came from 
one of our club members years ago.  It didn't rely on an open circuit of the 
coil to prevent theft but had a dash switch that shorted the points wire. 
Much easier to do if you have a tach since the wire is already there at the 
dash.  Thieves normally don't want to go into a bunch of diagnostics.  They 
want to grab and go.
