TO clarify a few issues: Tallest refers to the numerical difference between the 1 to 1 and the final drive ratio 3 t0 1 , ... 4 to 1, ... 5 to 1 etc.
IF you bother to take an hour out of your day to watch ,"Pass Time" on the speed channel, count how many guys are running 4 SPDs, and how many have automatics [Glides]. Consistency is the name of the game , if you wanna win in Drag Racing. Whether you run a 9 - o or a 21- o. Dial in your index, and nail your number, and you will take home money , more than not. There are a lot of tricks you can do with the little 'Vair" to make it "Launch". 60 ft. times , and are sharp eye at the ,"TREE" are hard to beat.
I was little eliminator twice [back in the day] with a 6cyl [250] auto [glide] chevelle [ 15.o et]. One of the guys that beat me had 110 Corvair auto cutting 18-Os in his sleep......... going home with the money, on many occasions. I give Corvairs a lot of respect at the track.
FAST is what takes home the MONEY !!!

Actually the "TALLEST" gears you can get from the factory for a Corvair was the 3.08. The "LOWEST" available (aftermarket) were 4.11.
