My understanding is the bellhousing should match the crank, so a late.

Pretty sure this is yes.

I think so. You should check the clutch fork ball height. The input shaft should match the trans.

That's a matter of opinion. It depends a little on how fast you want to go - 75 with a 3.89 would be a lot of RPM. There would be a little more wear on the engine, but the big factor is wear on the people on the highway, most folks want a more relaxed cruise.
