Mark- By far, the best thing you can do is to get a Safegard ignition controller- the boost
retard is controlled by a computer, and can be set-up basically how you want- the stock
mechanical boost retard is not used (although can certainly remain installed). Other benefits
with this system include individual cylinder retard, which keeps all cylinders as advanced as
they can be, only retarding the ping prone ones. When this system is used on corvairs,
they typically get 20% more horsepower and pings are banished! I have used a Safegard
on my 63 spyder for 9 years now- they are well worth the cost!!
