<VV> Electric clock

Yes they are around. Yes they are VERY cool. Yes they are a pain in
the rear (I have to have mine cleaned and otherwise touched up every
few years at a cost of 125.00). The make mechanical clock noises and
an interesting klunk as the power winds the spring. They are
frightfully expensive. NOS expect 300-500 (they fit other
Chevy's). NOS usually means the clock does not work (dirty and lube
dried from sitting 50 years) and you need the 125.00 expense
immediately. They are fairly easy to install although it is scary to
CUT your padded dash ...

Some people convert to quartz which solves most of the above problems
if you have a case -- but I hate that due to the loss of the sounds a
real clock makes.

There were two cases made, one through 61 and another 62-64. Purists
seem to think you MUST have the right year case. Since these were a
dealer, not factory, option my opinion is that a 61 version is
perfectly valid in a 62-64. When as a customer you asked for the
clock, the dealer went to his shelf and pulled one off, and installed
it. The dealer was not thinking "perhaps they will lose points in a
show in 50 years" ... I would also say a 62 clock in a 61 would be
incorrect, although my understanding is that the clocks arrived
before the end of 61 just as the cars did, so a 62 clock in a late
production 61 might also be correct. Mounted they don't look much
different and the innards are the same. You have to have sharp eye
to see the case differences. However, the later clock is easier to
install with a padded dash.

I MAY have one I'd sell, but it won't be cheap. Depends which case
you want. Contact me off list if interested.

Eric
