<VV> Flat Floor, Why?

I am really curious about the "Flat Floor Option" for ramp and load side
trucks as discussed in earlier posts.  I wonder a couple of things..

1.  Is this a real "Option" from dealer or from Chevrolet?  Or just optional
on the part of the owner to "self create"?

2.  What would be the advantage of creating a "flat floor"?  Seems like it'd
be giving up a good deal of bed capacity.

Just wondering.
