<VV> [FC] 1961 Greenbrier 4 speed shifter to a 1964 shifter

The '64 trans has a different input shaft (it's stronger). The '64 trans
requires the matching input shaft and the snout seal. The Trans Crossmember
is also different. I suspect the difference is solely because of the
difference in the shifter, if that is the case, them the '61 crossmember
could be used with the '61 mystery shifter rod and the '64 FC trans with no
difficulties.

Unless you've got the super rare early early '61 "Stump Puller" 4spd, the
ratios between the late '61-3 FC 4spd and the '64/5 FC 4spds are the same.
(the '64/5 car ratios are different and aren't optimal for use in an FC)

Typically the early "stump puller" would be mated with a 3.27 or 3.55 diff,
the later trans were usually mated with a 3.89.

Regards,
Joel

If my memory still serves well, 1961 (FC) transmissions have a 4.26 (1st)
ratio while 1964 is 3.65. Love 4.26 ones.

have a 1964 van four speed shifter and tank and rod. It is looking alot
harder to switch the shifter and trans than I had hoped. Does anyone know
where I can get a 1961 style shift rod and if the 64 4 speed is the same as
a 1961 4 speed transmission?

tank is softer than I had hoped. That is the bigger reason I want to try to
save the 61 style shifter.
