Just following this along ... I am in AZ with a 62 factory A/C
car. I changed the compressor to Sanden, the drier to Clark's, and
some hoses and valves from Clark's, converted to RU-134. Jeff at CA
Corvairs says it is the coldest A/C he has ever seen on a Corvair (he
did the restore so he is biased :-) ) But he is also right. It is
colder than my more modern cars -- downright ICY even at 100 degrees
out. I know a lot of people say the Corvair A/C is not much good,
but apparently if done right, it can be great. The Sanden is more
efficient than the stock compressor. Even with a 102 and PG it moves
right along (OK -- engine not entirely stock, but not overly modified either).
As to Pertronix. A Pertronix II will adjust for dwell and can cover
up a sloppy distributor and much better than the 1 ... to a
point. However, eventually you need to rebuild the distributor --
electronics cannot compensate for a fundamentally bad part, just a
slightly sloppy one.
