I had a 63 corvan Powerglide that ate starters.
Turned out that the ringear was warped.
Didn't look like it at first but found after closer look and transmission installed and removed 3x I finally figured it out.
Changed the Torque convertor and down the road it went again with out further issues

today removed a motor from a high profile FC vehicle that has been eating
starters since purchased...it is a powerglide. i can not see the cause ,
after removing the converter and the drive plate. so i will replace both with
know good ones and while i am there , the differential will be changed
from a 3:89 to a 3:55.
i have not seen many powerglide corvairs eat starters...anything i could
have missed?
the converter LOOKs ok , yes a couple teeth took a slight hit , but i doubt
that's the problem. all parts are correct late stuff , bellhousing , drive
plate , etc.
i sure hope replacing the obvious works!
someone that likes lots of the red silicone worked on this one before
