Unknown. My wifes 1960 has the original factory pistons and we still drive
it. I suspect that if the you know the engine has never been overheated or
otherwise abused it's a safe gamble.
Back in the 70's and 80's we used to see lots of disintegrated pistons but
they had usually been badly abused. Now we hardly ever see a bad piston -
even though it's years later. I think that general improvements in
maintenance is part of it.
